Last night at The Metreon Theater "The Butler's In Love", a 14-minute film shot
in 3-D and directed by actor David Arquette ("Scream"), made its San Francisco
premiere. The film was inspired by Mark Stock's absinthe era painting of
the same name, a painting which Mr. Arquette was enraptured by. In a
statement Mr. Arquette, who also stars in the film (along with Jennifer Seibel,
Elizabeth Berkley and Thomas Jane, who plays the butler), said of the painting:
"It's a beautiful painting that hangs on the wall at Bix Restaurant in San
Francisco where I had my pre-wedding rehearsal dinner. I loved that
painting and I never forgot about it. I thought about it often, so when I
was presented with the concept of linking artistic short films with the absinthe
brand, it was the perfect opportunity to pay tribute to this amazing work of art
and embrace the mystical past that absinthe has."
"The Butler's In Love" is a touching, warm and evocative portrait of love and
longing, with Mr. Jane's almost wordless performance capturing the essence of passion and
tenderness towards a woman in Ms. Seibel's character, a tenderness and passion he knows will never be
requited, despite flickering hopes.
The film was shot over three days in San Francisco, and recently had its Los
Angeles premiere at the Los Angeles Film Festival. "The Butler's In Love"
was sponsored and backed by Tourmented Films, described as a joint venture
between Converge Entertainment and French Absinthe Le Tourment Vert. Mr.
Arquette, Courtney Cox Arquette, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, and Jennifer
Seibel were on hand last night to host the film's Bay Area premiere.
Curtis Reynolds wrote the film, and was also in attendance, as were numerous
officials and members of the San Francisco film community.
