The Creative Coalition this morning voiced its
strong objection to President Barack Obama's proposed $6.2 million budget cuts
for both the arts and humanities. In a statement released today, The
Creative Coalition's Executive Director Robin Bronk
said: "We all understand the need for fiscal discipline".
Speaking specifically of the cuts to the National Endowment for The Arts and the
National Endowments For Humanities, Ms. Bronk called the proposed cuts
"shortsighted", adding that "the notion ... that you can address the imbalances
in the $3.8 trillion dollar budget by cutting into the roughly fifty cents per
capita invested by the government each year in our arts center simply strains
credulity."
In the budget unveiled yesterday, President Obama proposed cutting $6.2 million
from both the arts and humanities in Fiscal Year 2011. Ms. Bronk said she
was "hopeful" that Congress would restore the monies to the arts and humanities
during the appropriations process.
The Creative Coalition is a non-profit arts and public advocacy organization,
headed
by several American actors, including Tim Daly and Dana Delany, who are the
organization's co-founders. The Creative Coalition, with its headquarters
in New York City, held events at both the Republican and Democratic National
Conventions in 2008.
