If You Use Twitter, Benicio
Del Toro Will Follow You. Seriously.

(And yes, he follows me, too.)

If you are a regular on Twitter, you may often have thought of some of
the rich and famous on Twitter: "how can someone with that many
followers follow just six people? Sounds like a self-perpetuated
ego-boost!"
For those not famous, it's a surprise when someone famous begins to follow them.
So it was a huge surprise last week when the Oscar winning-actor Benicio Del
Toro began following everyone who followed him. Literally: everyone.
He re-tweeted almost every comment addressed to him.
With such frequency and robust, heartfelt responses one generally doesn't see
often enough, Mr. Del Toro's presence on Twitter was initially greeted last week
with skepticism from a few Twitter users (myself included.) Was it really
him?
It soon became clear however, that Mr. Del Toro's presence in the Twittersphere
was authentic.
In response to a tweet, one user said
this. The actor also re-tweeted the
comment.
Mr. Del Toro, the star of Steven
Soderbergh's epic "Che"
films, was recently seen on screen in
Sofia Coppola's
"Somewhere" in a cameo. And now the actor
is giving cameos to those who follow him on Twitter.
One hundred and forty characters of fame?
It seems that Mr. Del Toro (who signs many of his tweets BDT) is showing that
being on Twitter isn't all about him, but rather, a lot more about his millions
of fans.
A photo released this weekend on Twitter by Mr. Del Toro.
