On July 17 the Los Angeles-based company Maya Entertainment releases a series of eight Latin-themed films in conjunction with Blockbuster, the home entertainment company, in eight cities in the U.S., running through September 10, the same month that is National Hispanic Heritage Month.  The films will be released theatrically in the major media markets of the U.S.

In a statement Maya's founder Moctesuma Esparza expressed high hopes and goals of the seven-week theatrical tour of the films, which feature some of the top American filmmaking and acting talents, including Andy Garcia and Esai Morales.  "With Blockbuster as a partner in this venture, we will extend the reach of this program tenfold and provide the national film going audience with consistent high quality cinema from Latino filmmakers and talent."  The alliance with Blockbuster represents "the perfect extension of Maya's mission", stated Mr. Esparza.

At the conclusion of the eight-city, seven-week run, each of the following eight films will be available to rent at Blockbuster stores throughout the U.S. in September:

"The Line" - Set in Tijuana, Mexico, a old hand-assassin tracks down the leader of a crime cartel.  Andy Garcia, Armand Assante, Esai Morales, Ray Liotta and Danny Trejo star.

"Vicious Circle" - Described as a tragic punk-rock love story, the film has a murder mystery element amidst a Romeo and Juliet-type story set in Venice Beach, California.  Starring Paul Rodriguez Jr., Emily Rios, Robert Zepeda and Paul Rodriguez.

"Bajo La Sal" - A murder mystery thriller about a funeral home worker and horror filmmaker who is ensnared in a romance and serial murder investigation.  Directed by first-time feature filmmaker Mario Munos, the film stars Humberto Zurita and features the Mexico Ariel Award-winning performance of Irene Azuela.

"Sultanes Del Sur" (Southern Sultans) - The question of who double-crossed whom is a major factor in a bank heist thriller set in Mexico, as the bank robbery spins out of control.  Tony Morton, Jordi Molla and Ana De la Reguera star.

"Once Upon A Time In Rio" - Ipanema is the setting where love attempts to transcend economic and racial prejudices when a house servant's son embarks on a more than platonic relationship with a rich lawyer's daughter.  Thiago Martins, Viroria Frate, and Rocca Pitanga star.

"Crónicas Chilangas" (Chilangas Chronicles) - Psychological disorders and dysfunctional lives intertwine for three individuals in a comedy.  Guadalajara was the scene for the world premiere of the film this year, where it won Best Actor for Patricio Castillo, Best Mexican First Work and Best Mexican Screenplay.

"Bad Guys" - An attorney who has been victimized and scammed by the system cooks up a scheme to get her revenge by designing an opiate drug to get millions in moneyed fortune.  Kate del Castillo and Danny Strong star.

Máncora - On a road trip, disconnected souls shift through varying emotional terrain in a tense and tender drama.  Starring Enrique Murciano, Elsa Pataky and Phellippe Haagensen.
