According to published reports in
The Hollywood Reporter and
HitFix, the sequel to last year's smash hit film
"Paranormal Activity" will
be in U.S. theaters to scare audiences this October. The new film will not
be directed by Oren Peli, whose next film, "Area 51" is currently in
post-production and will be released later this year. Mr. Peli directed
the first "Paranormal Activity", which made about $110 million in the U.S. and
Canada thanks largely to the demand generated by a word-of-mouth and Internet
voting campaign.
Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat starred in last year's film, shot in San Diego
at Mr. Peli's own house for just over $10,000. "Paranormal Activity" is
about a couple who move into a suburban San Diego house and soon experience
supernatural occurrences in it. The film was released on DVD and Blu Ray
on December 29.
Kevin Gruetert will direct the new "Paranormal" film, which has neither an
official title, nor any news on plot details or names associated with lead
roles. Michael R. Perry will write the screenplay. Mr. Peli and
Jason Blum will produce. Paramount Pictures, which released last year's
film, will distribute the sequel, expected to bow in North American theaters on
October 22, the same date that "Saw VII" is to open. Mr. Gruetart directed
"Saw VI".
