The Oscar-nominated "The Princess And The Frog" is now on video and is a
sparkling gem on Blu-Ray. The special three-disc edition is a vital title
for Disney fans and animation gurus to own. Ron Musker and John Clements
direct this film, which should have done even better at the U.S.-Canada box
office following its initial release last November.
Marking a triumphant return to 2D animation, "The Princess And The Frog" pulses
with life, color, music and great voice performances from all involved,
including Anika Noni Rose as Tiana, Jenifer Lewis as Mama Odie and
Keith David as Facilier.
Disc one features the Blu-Ray presentation of the film, with top-notch
high-definition picture and sharp, discrete audio. "The Princess And The
Frog" is one of the most beautiful animated films on Blu-Ray. A host of
special features are on the disc, including deleted scenes, art galleries, an
audio commentary by the directors, plus side-by-side comparisons of the sketches
of animation in progress and the finished product.
The second disc is the DVD edition of the film, which also includes deleted
scenes, audio commentary and R&B/soul-singer Ne-Yo's music video for his song
"Never Knew I Needed", which plays during the film's end credits . Randy
Newman's music is effervescent, with such numbers as "Almost There", "When I'm
Human" and many more.
The third disc is a digital copy of the feature film which can be transferred to
iPod, iPhone or Mac/PC. Unlike many digital copy DVDs there is no
expiration date by which one needs to download the disc to their iPod, etc.
Stunning, bright and everlasting, "The Princess And The Frog" has charm, love,
warmth and lots of joy. There are moments of evil and peril that makes
this a film that will scare small children -- then again parts of "Bambi" did
too -- but overall it is a wondrous delight you can't help but fall in love
with.
