Winner winner, chicken dinner.

And Charlie Sheen, pilloried in the media, a man with his fair share of downs and ups over the years, is Twitter's latest deity.  He arrived with a turn of the calendar today, as the new month got started.

Ladies and gentlemen, Charlie Sheen is winning.  Whether you like it or not.  Some members of the U.S. mainstream media are following him avidly.

Last count as of late tonight:
593,791, 594,962, 598,587, 601,575, 603,115 followers.

You get the idea.

Oddsmakers, bookies, Vegas, what do you say?

One million followers by sunrise Pacific U.S. time on March 2, guaranteed?

The actor who essentially told "Two And A Half Men" producer Charles Lorre to stick it where the sun doesn't shine is now the publicity phenomenon that wags the dog.  Whatever war is being waged -- apologies or no apologies -- Mr. Sheen has taken his fight to the people.

And the result is unanimous.  Charles Sheen in an instant knockout.

You love it.  And in a way I do, too.  I don't love the rough stuff that Mr. Sheen has been accused of or has done or allegedly done, but I "love" how we in America and around the globe gravitate to the latest craze, right or wrong.

Give Mr. Sheen credit: he benefits from a slower news cycle and a media that gravitates to instant tidbits.  Charlie Sheen makes publicists redundant.

"This S--t Here Sells Itself."

Mykelti Williamson said that in the film "Heat", and he was onto something.  That line could be Mr. Sheen's middle name very soon.  Or the title of a memoir.  Maybe "Winning"?

This craziness is undeniably fascinating in some ways.

I asked Mr. Sheen's followers how many followers they thought this man would get if he jumped on Twitter.  And whether they would also follow him.  I got this response from one person.

The fact is, we are all seduced, even if all of us aren't following Mr. Sheen.  The curiosity factor is there.  And many of us probably think this is all so sexy.

We are all talking about him.

If Mr. Sheen had a live pay-per-view TV show right now, many would pay to see it.  Would you?  He could use this picture as the poster for the tour.  The photo, Mr. Sheen's debut Twitter entry, has been viewed -- as you've just seen -- about a million times and counting.

Mr. Sheen may be unemployed right now -- whether of his own doing or someone else's -- but he could sell out a hundred arenas tomorrow if he wanted, faster than even the legendary Prince did last week in Oakland, California.

You can see it now, can you not?

Charlie Sheen Presents: "Winning: A Take It To The People" Tour.

Am I wrong?

Mr. Sheen had a strong 1980s, starring in Oliver Stone's Oscar-winning films "Platoon" and "Wall Street" and made his presence felt in the hilarious "Major League".  He has thrived mightily on CBS's now-suspended show "Two And A Half Men" for several years, and made a cameo in Mr. Stone's "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps" last year.

(FYI: If you follow or casually observe Mr. Sheen on Twitter you will know that Mr. Sheen's passwords/hashtags are #winning, #chooseyourvice, #tigerblood.)

Unlike Melissa Leo, Mr. Sheen has already gone directly to the Twitterati with his Oscars campaign for 2012, without having to pay a penny.

For all the heat that the Oscar hosts got this week, think how much higher the ratings would be for next year's show if Mr. Sheen were to host it.

Bud Fox, Rick Vaughn: neither of you is Smokey Bear, but only you can put out this fire.

I have a feeling however, that you'll both just sit back and watch the flames spread.

Ladies and gentlemen, Charlie Sheen is winning.  And everybody loves a winner.
