The three-dimensional extravaganza continues for Hollywood motion pictures.  Today Sony announced that the next "Spider-Man" film will be released in 3-D on July 3, 2012.

Last month Marc Webb was named the director of the new film, which will begin filming later this year.

The untitled Spider-Man film will focus on the high-school and adolescent years of Peter Parker.   An actor has not be finalized for the role, although speculation on the Internet has included names from Paul Dano to Mr. Webb's prior collaborating thespian Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who starred in Mr. Webb's film "(500) Days Of Summer".

Jeff Blake, Sony's chairman of worldwide marketing and distribution, said today: "'Spider-Man' is the ultimate summer movie-going experience, and we're thrilled the filmmakers will present the next installment in 3-D."

Laura Ziskin, who has been a producer on previous "Spider-Man" films, will also produce the new film, as will Avi Arad.  James Vanderbilt is the screenwriter.
