Here are just some of the theatrical film releases opening this Friday in the U.S.:

2 DAYS IN NEW YORK
- Julie Delpy directs, stars in and co-writes this follow-up to her 2007 comedy "2 Days In Paris".  This time Marianne's father, sister and ex-boyfriend come to stay with her in New York City, where she lives with her husband played by Chris Rock.  Now playing in New York City; expands its limited release on Friday.

THE AWAKENING
- Dominic West, Rebecca Hall and Imelda Staunton star in Nick Murphy's horror film set in 1920s London.  Opens in limited release on Friday.

COMPLIANCE
- Craig Zobel's psychodrama is based on the true story of an 18-year-old fast-food restaurant employee in Kentucky who in 2004 endured a harrowing four hours of victimization in a backroom of her workplace.  Some film critics have written much about the film, which is an uncomfortable and disturbing 90 minutes.  Many people in audiences who have seen the film (or attempted to) don't stay until the end.  With Ann Dowd, Dreama Walker, Pat Healy, Bill Camp and Ashlie Atkinson.  Now playing in Toronto; opens exclusively in New York City on Friday.  Read review

COSMOPOLIS
- After the disappointing "A Dangerous Method" David Cronenberg directs Robert Pattinson in a drama about a billionaire's roller coaster 24 hours in New York City.  Based on Don DeLilio's novel.  With Juliette Binoche, Sarah Gadon, Paul Giamatti and Mathieu Almaric.  Opens in New York City and Los Angeles on Friday.

THE EXPENDABLES 2 - The all-star, all-action actors sequel to Sylvester Stallone's 2010 film.  Directed this time by Simon West ("Con Air").  With Mr. Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Terry Crews, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Chuck Norris, Bruce Willis, Randy Couture, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Liam Hemsworth.  Opens nationwide on Friday.

THE ODD LIFE OF TIMOTHY GREEN
- Peter Hedges' fantasy drama about a mysterious young boy named Timothy Green stars Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton ("Warrior").  Opens nationwide on Wednesday.

PARANORMAN
- Animated film about a boy who tries to save his city from a decades-long curse.  Norman, who can speak to the dead, is anything but normal.  Chris Butler and Sam Fell direct.  In 3D.  Opens nationwide on Friday.

RED HOOK SUMMER
- Spike Lee's first feature film in four years sees a new addition to the director's "Chronicles Of Brooklyn" series.  A young boy from Atlanta spends a summer in Brooklyn with the grandfather he has never met before.  A coming-of-age-story with some explosive results.  Received a divisive response from critics at Sundance.  Mr. Lee's film is sure to be talked about almost as much as "Compliance".  With Clarke Peters, Jules Brown, Toni Lysaith, Nate Parker and Thomas Jefferson Byrd.  Continuing in New York City; expanding to New Jersey on Friday.

ROBOT & FRANK - A former criminal gets a gift from his son: a robot, programmed to take care of him.  Who will influence the other more: the robot in keeping him honest, or the former criminal, looking to engage the robot in wrongdoing?  Frank Langella headlines, with Peter Sarsgaard, Susan Sarandon and Liv Tyler.  In limited release on Friday.

SPARKLE
- An update of the classic 1976 musical film.  A trio of sisters hit it big in Motown and face big challenges thereafter.  Salim Akil ("Jumping The Broom") directs Jordin Sparks and Derek Luke ("Red Tails").  Featuring the late Whitney Houston, in her final big screen performance.  Opens nationwide on Friday.

WHY STOP NOW? - What could possibly happen when a piano-playing genius is held hostage by his mother's drug dealer?  Oh dear.  All he tries to do is get his mother into rehab.  It is said that no good deed goes unpunished... Let me guess: Tracy Morgan is probably cast as the drug dealer, Jesse Eisenberg as the piano player, Isiah Whitlock Jr. as a detective and Melissa Leo as the mother of the piano player.  Am I right?  Phil Dorling and Ron Nyswaner direct the comedy.  In limited release on Friday and on demand right now.
