Just months after leaving due to creative differences,
Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck has returned to
direct "The Tourist", an espionage thriller starring Johnny Depp and
Angelina Jolie. Ms. Jolie will be seen in another spy thriller, the
long-delayed "Salt", this July.
In "The Tourist", a Hollywood remake of the 2005 French film "Anthony Zimmer",
Ms. Jolie will play an Interpol agent leaning on an unwitting tourist played by
Mr. Depp to help find a killer who was the agent's former boyfriend.
Graham King is one of the film's producers.
Mr. Von Donnersmarck directed the Oscar-winning best foreign language 2006 film
"The Lives Of Others" (Das Leben Der Anderen) and
had been in talks to direct an American remake of that film, which ultimately
didn't come to fruition.
"The Tourist", at various times rumored to feature Sam Worthington, Tom Cruise
and other actors, is slated for a 2011 release. The film will mark Mr. Von
Donnersmarck's Hollywood feature film debut.
